Mid 2019 review

Ok, so I believe that at the start of the year I had some plans to play this and that and achieve this and that so with me not appearing on here for a few weeks you would assume that I have been furiously tapping away at the Xbox Controller and Achievements have been popping like mad.

Well, I am about half way though Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I have one more Episode to complete on Spartan Ops, I am playing my way through The Division 2 and haven’t even started Final Fantasy 7.

What I have done instead is buy some other games and play them, and then recently watch E3 too and so compile a shopping list for more.  I think that there just isn’t enough time.

I have been off on leave for a couple of weeks and I have been playing one of the current Xbox Live Games for Gold NHL 19.  Started the Be a Pro mode so baby steps development wise.

As an Xbox Insider I also signed up to try the now publicly available Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and see how it varies.  Speaking of Game Pass, still trying to get some quests there.

Earlier in the year in published the below graphic showing the percentage of Achievements unlocked.

ta stats 210119

And below is what it looks like at the moment.

Achievements

The percentage was a little better until I started playing Banjo-Kazooie for a bit of fun, but hey, that is what games are for.

I also had a play on the new Lego Speed Champions pack for Forza Horizon 4 last night and that looks rather interesting.

On the streaming front, I think that depending on what I want to achieve at the moment then I can have some fun.  Still without a couple of key ingredients but they will come.  So check out the MisguidedSumo Mixer channel and keep an eye out for videos.

I picked up Lego Ninjago the other day so that I can have a further play through, collect the last 10 achievements and add another completed game to my collection.  I also added Assassin’s Creed Origins which is one that I have looked at ever since it was released and now I just need to sit down and start playing it.

I also picked up the Handsome collection of Borderlands and pre-ordered Jedi Fallen Order.  On top of that, registered my interest in Project Scarlett.  I think the countdown has begun.

Whilst keeping an eye on all this, I have also joined as an Xbox Ambassador in the last couple of months.  I have been on Xbox live since it started and like to think of it as a community that we go to and share adventures, general fun and chat.  What I and others to not enjoy are some of the language and behaviour of “gamers” and so please ensure that if  you have any issues during games then report via the recommend methods.  Any issues then us ambassadors are here to assist.

Back again soon.

Stream test day

Hi all, I know it has been a while. Apologies and all. I’d like to say I’ve been a little focused on projects and I’ve kind of put this to one side. Though that is not ideal I know.

What I have been doing today though is sitting down with my Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2. With the aim of running some test streams on Mixer. I spent the day playing Forza Horizon 4 and Fifa 19.

So after connecting everything up and sitting awkwardly to look at the TV I started working through some issues.

Firstly I tried And although I had myself via the webcam I had nothing coming through the device. This was a simple fault that was quickly remedied.

Then I had video but no audio. So if you look you’ll see that the first couple of videos just have audio from the headset mic and not the games.

But after a little tweaking this was also rectified.

What I might do next is copy the setting to Streamlabs and have a little play.

I need to run some further tests as I put streaming aside for a coupl eof months I have kind of gone backwards not forwards so that has not helped.  But still the lessons learned helped get setup quicker and the pace in diaagnosing issues was significantly quicker.

I am missing some key items, but nothing that will prevent me from streaming.  So I aim to be gaming merrily as normal before long.

Come have a look and follow me and I’ll be back here again shortly.

5500 Xbox Achievements Unlocked

So, I could have reached this target a couple of years ago probably if I had played a lot more and a few more things had gone my way.  Then I wouldn’t be going back and replaying games the way I am, not that I am not enjoying that as there are always a few to keep in the locker for rainy days.

After a week of popping a few here and there and chipping away at the target, I decided to reinstall Killer Instinct and play through Survial Mode with a few more characters unlocking the achievements for that and the ones that you can normally pop along the way.  This was 2 or 3 per character that I’ve done so far, then after doing this and funnily enough fancying a change of game I loaded up Anthem for a bit, then Minecraft.

So the Milestone Achievement was “Iron Belly”, quite fitting really for a day of play and achievement popping, not that I will now “Stop starvation using Rotten Flesh”.  I will snack and refresh suitably before starting towards the next target.

I did earlier stream a little weekend drive on Forza Horizon 4 on Mixer so check it out and follow me there as I start to share my adventures more.

In total over the last 8 days during this streak I am on I have now unlocked 47 Achievements from 11 Games, these are;

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
  • Anthem
  • Fifa 19
  • Call of Duty Black Ops
  • Assassin’s Creed Revelations
  • Burnout Paradise
  • Minecraft
  • Killer Instinct
  • Halo 5
  • Trials Fusion

So if I haven’t mentioned any of the above recently, then you can see what I have managed to unlock Achievements in.  I’ve played many other games too as you may have seen.

A couple of the above I am curently playing through and so more to do, the rest is just for fun.

Streaking fun

I try and put some thought into my ideas here, but I also get messages and prompts about the regularity of things I am doing so am I doing them to often?

I am currently on a streak of posts here, but more importantly I have started a little streak of Achievement gathering now.

With the 5 I have gathered today 3 in Minecraft, 1 in Anthem and 1 in Assassin’s Creed Revelations that takes it to 31 in the last 6 days, and that is without playing 24/7.  As you have probably gathered from my previous ramblings, those 31 come from 10 different games.

With the streak now fully started, I feel obliged to try and see how long I can keep it going for.  See if I can get any where near my best ones or maybe set a goal of 50 achievements and see how many days I can reach it in.  Then see where I go from there.

When I do reach that I will go past the 5500 Achievements unlocked mark which will be a nice little milestone to go past.  I am currently at 5486, so not far to go now.

I haven’t yet started anymore games so games played is still sitting at 300.

But by the end of the month, I would like ot have started Final Fantasy 7.  Maybe my trial of Anthem will have run out by then, and I might not have purchased it yet.  So a window of oppurtunity.

From the streak perspective, depending on how you look at it my longest so far was 33 days and I earned 141 Achievements.  Efficeincy wise my best was 17 days in which I earned 165 Achiements.  If I could have kept that one going then I would have been ok.

The 33 day streak was my introduction to Gears of War, and I play Gears 1, 2 and then 3 back to back.  It was a very good month.

The 17 day streak, was mostly unlocking Killer Instinct Achievements, and there is still a lot more of those to unlock and so I have just reinstalled it.

I want to earn at least another 109 Achiecements, and so if I can do it in this streak then I’ll improve on the above stats.  Let’s see how things go.

April 2019 – Xbox 360 play day

Ok, so I mentioned a need to run through some things yesterday.  What I didn’t plan was sitting down for the day playing Xbox 360 Games.

I’ve been playing, Call of Duty Black Ops, Assassin’s Creed Revelation and Burnout Paradise.

What I have also done, is as sort of planned for yesterday.  I’ve cleared some current games off of my Xbox One S and installed some of the mentioned games ready for some play sessions.

I have some other games on the Xbox One X, so I have choice if needed.

Burnout Paradise was the usual laugh, and it was good to cause mayhem with some takedowns on that again.

Some great memories of not to long ago, I keep thinking of installing Borderlands, but I know I wouldn’t play anything else.

I’ll be spending a lot more hours jumping between the 2 consoles as I decide which games to play when.

I do want to finish Black Ops as I have my eye on another of the CoD catalogue as it’s available, but don’t want to get until I have done at least playthrough of this game.  Should finish it this week.  I’ve put it off long enough.

Richard

Continued play

I managed to get on to Halo 5 this morning and although it is a bit of a cheat that you can pop 2 achievements without actually playing a game it still knocks them off the to do list whilst planning in the game time to work on some skull searching etc..

Then whilst playing a couple of games of Fifa 19 to pass some time I heard my Phone ping with Achievement.  Didn’t notice it come up on the screen but it was still a welcome surprise as I hadn’t really been looking for it.

The real achievement of the day (which isn’t even one) is that I am off the 0 count on Apex Legends, I now have 2 so still not anything to really celebrate, but hey.  I am not trying to, it is just a number after all.

I did a little research into my games earlier looking at what I need to sit down and play in order to improve my stats.  I worked out that I need to dedicate a few days to the Assassin’s Creeds, Bioshock and Alien Isolation.  The Assassin’s Creeds I refer to are 1, 3 and Revelations, all recently picked up and started and I need to finish them.

Bioshock, I picked up the collection over the festive period in the Microsoft sales, and I need to finish the 1st so I can start he others.

And, well, Alien Isolation is a great game that for some reason I just keep putting off playing.

One day I will catch up and all the games in my collection will finally be played.

This weeks adventures

I am still getting to grips with this, and those few words might start a few of these posts.  What should improve is the content that flows after.

A reasonable amount of uninterrupted gameplay was enjoyed over the weekend with the occasional pop heard.

Thinking of changing my Xbox profile colour from Red, I’ve had that for a few years now and I think it’s time to look at options.

MisguidedSumo

Still haven’t started Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but if you’ve read any of my previous blogs then you’ll see that I have been hopping back and forth with planned games and played games that I didn’t intend and unlocked achievements I didn’t expect so all good.

In the last 2 days, I’ve unlocked 15 achievements in 9 games so the tidy up is going rather well I think and my percentage is moving in the right direction.  I think I have enough of a cushion to start a new game and not drop to far back the other way.

I am going to restart Call of Duty Black Ops soon, just so I can complete it and know how the game plays through.  Then, I will spend the time doing it on Veteran.

Over the weekend I went to look at my saved progress on Halo Master Chief Collection and noticed that it wasn’t there?  So before I play again (happy to) I will be checking achievement unlocks to see which Spartan op is the next one that I need to do.

Once I have finished those, I plan on finally starting on the cross game playlist achievements.  Theres a few others that should be finished off whilst completing these as well.

On the side, I am compiling the wish list for 2019 as the games start coming out.  There are a few I have my eye on and so look forward to spending time playing this year, having spent 2018 catching up on The Division, I am looking for ward to The Division 2.  Anything in particular that you are keeping an eye out for?  Let me know.

Misguided Fun

Ok, so I didn’t know what to call this one at the start of writting this but then sometimes the title comes at the end?

Really, you should have a subject to write right?

So anyway, let’s just wing it.  So far this week I have composed a few blogs piecing together memories past and current gamplay to name a couple of things.

What I am starting to put together (I hope) is a a little look into my likes, dislikes, setup gameplay etc.

As mentioned, if you have any points or queries on anything that you see or read then let me know and I will see what I can do.

I have ambition to get my gameplay hours going a little better this year to enable me to reachthe targets mentioned in previous posts.  And repeated last years stats.

2018 xbox stats

I spent a number of hours playing Tom Clancy’s The Division in 2018, after I found it on xbox Game Pass.  Still need to do some more to complete it off in parts.

But tonight and for the foreseeable time my focus is crawling towards level 25 on Overwatch, so close now that it seems to be taking longer.  The fact I haven’t played yet today hasn’t helped.

I think that I am getting so focused on that that I may forget my other goals sometimes and so that is also why i am giving myself these little reminders.

I’ll see if I can get over the line tonight and reach the target.

Richard

Still settling in – but xbox play more the priority

Evening, still getting used to this and amazed that I get these little prompts from WordPress about streaks?  What are these if not Achievement earning related, am I giving up game time to compose a small note here?

xo_pse

I haven’t had a chance to turn the xbox on for a couple of days admittedly due to other things getting in the way, but I’ll be on Overwatch as soon as this is published to ensure I continue crawling towards that goal.

It will also give me the chance to see if any updates have installed during the past 2 days.

Following yesterdays blog post, I started compiling what I want to ensure that I dedicate time to in February, we can look into that further later.

I have essentially had as much of an unplug as I allow myself, allow the xbox to cool down for a few hours before setting up a some sessions to get things cleared.

I need to have a look over the options at the weekend and maybe give the blog a bit of a better look, as I haven’t really had the chance to play with that yet.

Let me know what you think.

I will stream often, so follow me on Mixer the support is appreciated.  Eventually I’ll pick up a headset and join the chat.  Nothing personal, just haven’t replaced one that just broke due to age and wear a while ago and got used to playing without it.  But I normally have the chat box open.

Do suggest games, I am always on the look out for somethig to play, my favourites are pick up and play’s and that is whay I actually love the “xbox acarde” games from the 360 days, Trials HD was great for a quick couple of minutes if that’s all you had.  And I can still play it as backwards compatible.

Well, off to play Overwatch.

My story so far…

I was sitting here earlier, putting together a brief summary piece for the About page.  When the this became a little than really required, I decided to simply delete the lot.  Quick paragraph, which can be edited later.  And then after a little Human Fall Flat and Overwatch I ended up here.

What I had started composing was a piece about what I have played, consoles etc.  It just got a little long.  And so I thought I would share a little more.

My gameplay memories start with the classics, Pong, Paperboy but a number of hours were spent on games like Chuckie Egg and Repton 2 pre console.

We did not have a NES or SNES so I didn’t get hours of Mario growing up, like most children though, I was aware of the plumber and a friend had a SNES when they came out and occasional after school sessions of Mario Kart were enough to hook anyone to the series for life.  We did pick up a few consoles from Nintendo when we started doing the purchasing.

Console wise we started with the SEGA Master System, and I dedicated many hours to Alex Kidd in Miracle World until Sonic the Hedgehog came along.  So many games were played on the Master System it is hard to keep track (I was young).

When the Mega Drive came out we added that to the console collection.  Games like Streets of Rage, Desert Strike, Sensible Soccer all getting hours of game play.

Then came the PS1 and I remember having a game Tunnel B1, spent hours trying to figure that out.  But I think I wasn’t the only person that lost a few weeks to Dual Shock controllers and Gran Turismo when they were released.

I also remember getting a card from Game, inviting me to preorder a game soon to be released.  It was from a series I had never heard of and it was the 7th in that series.  Looking at the pictures on the card I gave it a try, and the number of years I have lost to Final Fantasy 7, are well, I am playing catch up with some others.

The first console that I purchased was the SEGA Game Gear, I picked it up on a holiday to Florida.  My brother had a Nintendo Gameboy, so Tetris got a few hours play.  I picked up the Nintendo 64, got the obligatory selection of games.  Had a Gamecube too.

Then went a little SONY way and the PS2 was the console of choice for a few years, GTA has come along way from the early days.  But generally there was a great selection of games.

Now, the choice to define a generation.  Xbox came out, I queued at midnight, carried it home and then sat until I don’t know when playing Halo.  This was me, settled, just how I liked it, the games coming out just started to edge my PS2 into the corner.  And eventually it was traded in for games.

I owned 1 original xbox, I think we all had numerous 360’s, not necessarily due to issues.  Hard Disk introduction, I really never could understand the Arcade version.

We purchased a Wii and had fun bowling, then the Kinect came out.  Now I enjoyed the Kinect, Kinect Adventures etc on the 360 was fun.  What I didn’t enjoy was when they tried to build it into games when it really wasn’t needed.  When I was happily running along on Halo Anniversary and my son shouts “Grenade” so Master Chief obliges and throws, suddenly I have none and really could use 1.

xbox controllers

Now that we are into Xbox One and moved on to the X, I have got the room set up as is required to experience the games as designed.  4K TV, and Dolby Atmos Home Theatre, some games really make look outside because you wonder what the noise is.

what is the first game you remember playing?
